NTI's mission is to educate students in a context informed by Buddhist wisdom and values. It facilitates cultural understanding and appreciation through the academic study of the arts, education, human welfare, religions and other disciplines.
Nan Tien Institute (NTI) is a secular tertiary Institute, providing a unique and innovative range of courses designed to educate non-Buddhists, and the world’s growing Buddhist community. It caters for those interested in subjects that are connected to Buddhist values and culture, and whose careers link them with Buddhist philosophy, culture, practices and international relations. NTI continues to develop courses that impart practical and functional knowledge to apply Buddhist wisdom in the community.

Campus Services and Facilities
- Wollongong Campus
Wollongong is situated in the Illawarra region on the coastline, only an hour’s drive south of Sydney. It is the third largest city in New South Wales, and the 10th largest in Australia. Students at NTI will enjoy the learning environment provided by the recently opened Wollongong Tertiary Campus, Art Gallery and Cultural Centre. They will also have the unique and limited opportunity to study opposite the Nan Tien Temple – the largest Buddhist Temple in the Southern Hemisphere.
- Sydney Campus
NTI’s English Language Centre in Syndey combines the safety and nurturing that stems from Buddhist philosophy, with the highly advanced, professional and outcome-focus of a leading-edge English language course provider. The newly renovated facilities include the latest, cutting-edge resources, including multi-purpose classrooms, library and student common-room facilities, as well as advanced computer services with ultra-high-speed fibre connections.
- Nan Tien Institute Library
Nan Tien Institute Library serves the research needs of staff and students at NTI, with a specialised collection of Buddhist resources. A generous donation of books from the Fo Guang Shan organisation makes ours the largest collection of Humanistic Buddhist resources in Australia.
