The National Theatre exists to provide Australian and international students with affordable, world-class training in Ballet and Dance, Drama and Music Theatre in a dynamic, caring, non-discriminatory environment that recognises the potential of the performing arts to enhance life skills as well as provide a career.
Our Schools are complemented and supported by a versatile, professional performance space that is also available to community and educational institutions at favourable rates, enhancing our links with the City of Port Phillip, its residents and the wider community of Melbourne. The National Theatre Ballet School was begun in 1939, just a few years after the Drama School in 1936. The schools offer training for all ages in both unaccredited courses as well as Diploma and Advanced Diplomas of Arts. The Ballet School also accepts international students in its full-time courses.

- The National Theatre Drama School in Melbourne is Victoria’s longest-established actor-training institution, and one of the leading acting schools in Australia. Based in its own purpose-built facilities in St Kilda, the school offers a range of full time and part time acting courses in stage performance, and in acting for film and television. The nationally-accredited professional training course is a full time Advanced Diploma of Acting with audition intakes twice a year in February and June.
Company is a not for profit private school which is now 75 years old. National Theatre building opened in 1921 as The Victory (3000 seat cinema). In 1972-74 they purchased the 2550 seat Victory Theatre & converted it to a live theatre with a fly tower. Current 783 seat live venue based on the dress circle. Schools are located downstairs in the former stalls.
